"What urgency calls you to your one love? What shape waits in the seed of you To grow and spread its branches against a future sky?"                                          David Whyte          'what to remember when waking'

One day last week  a little tree arrived at my house. Not by accident you understand, it had been
ordered, but it arrived later than expected & it was a surprise when it did!
I planted the little tree immediately; it looked as if it had experienced some challenges in its
recent history, so I  thought the fresh soil with a long drink, might be welcome.
The very next morning, the spindly branches were full of tiny but impressive blossom.
I've been thinking a lot about change recently, so this beautiful image really spoke to me.
The change it underwent appeared to be literally overnight, which is quite a short timescale perhaps
to move from one way of being or appearing in the world to another, and yet it was a true if incomplete
transformation & beyond my expectations of it.
I'm excited to witness  how this little tree literally blooms just outside the window of my  office & to
savour  the lessons I know it's going to teach me & remind me of.
The first of those is the process of change.
Although change can look sudden,  when it comes to living beings, the changes  we might choose to
make in line with who we perceive ourselves to be or want to be... happen gradually. Our whole system  has to be prepared to create or align with our  literal evolving as we emerge...
just like this little tree, the blossom it produced  as soon as it arrived started many weeks ago in a
small pot somewhere entirely different. Other hands nurtured it & noticed it. I  simply made sure
that it had the environment it needed to continue its own unique & mysterious journey towards the fulfilment of its identity, the best version of itself if you will,  & it was delighted to continue its flowering.

This reminded me also of the crucial role others play in our changes. From working with people who want to make changes, & from my own change, I recognise that a being can begin a change in behaviour  & be
committed to that, yet needs those around it to support, welcome & 'allow' the change.
Sometimes  those with whom we interact  might long for the familiarity of how we used to be &
could inadvertently or deliberately stunt that growth.
if I had wanted the litte tree to resemble the fully gown(ed) version of itself  below, I would have been frustrated  & disappointed.
I have no wish to foresee this tree, I only want to discover it.
I often want to  foresee my own growth, & force it,
until I remember that  'where' & 'who' I am right now.
is where & who I am right now.... but little seeds
of growth & change are already beginning
to push their way to the surface deep within me. They may have
lain dormant under ice or been simply waiting for the optimum
moment to push through.
I want to pay attention to &  follow the rhythm of my own
deepest signature of identity & emergence.   To work with change.
I will continue to listen & watch.

“Has my heart gone to sleep?
Have the beehives of my dreams
stopped working,
the waterwheel
 of the mind run dry,

scoops turning empty,
only shadow inside?

No, my heart is not asleep.

It is awake, wide-awake.

Not asleep, not dreaming--

Its eyes are opened wide

watching distant signals,
listening
on the rim of the vast silence"

Antonio Machado

"I realize today that we should not hurry,
we should not be impatient
but we should confidently obey the natural rhythm".    Nikos Kazantzakis

"Hang out with people who are first of all respecting you, second of all liking you, & third of all making
an ongoing positive response In your direction"    Hugh Prather.

Enjoy the changes you want to make in line with  the best you!

I love to notice, & to wonder & to journal on the things I wonder about: as the poet David Whyte says ~to "overhear myself saying things I didn't know I knew"
    What do you wonder?
