Something you say? Hear others say? I do…..on both counts.
Recently, I even overheard someone saying it in response to the question:
“What do you want for Christmas?”
Fifteen years ago when I went on my first Vision Quest in the magnificent mountains of Colorado USA.
I did what the Leader & Poet David Whyte calls~
‘Making yourself a promise it will kill you to break’
I promised to give myself a minute, & more, on a regular basis.
Why? So that I can pause, stop, listen……on the inside, & breathe in the vast wisdom of the natural world. So that I can take stock, rest, laugh, catch up with myself & re-energise to be the best me I can be
for the work I do in the world.
Because I believe it’s my responsibility to give that to myself. And I can.
So next week I’m leaving for Telluride, Colorado, to return to what the indigenous tribes called Shandoka or Storm Maker Mountain (otherwise known as Wilson’s Peak) where I made my first Vision Quest. I’m having a reunion with this amazing place. I'm going to re-member as I give myself a minute. It’s the best gift I’ll have had all year!
How about you? When could you………..give yourself a minute?
I love to notice, & to wonder & to journal on the things I wonder about: as the poet David Whyte says ~to "overhear myself saying things I didn't know I knew"
